The Alaska Zoo operates through winter with core, permanent part-time or full-time positions. We hire through spring and summer for our busy season.

Seasonal Camp Assistant:

The Alaska Zoo Education Department is presently seeking a qualified individual for a seasonal Summer Camp Assistant position. This seasonal, full-time position involves aiding the Camp Coordinators in the smooth running of Summer Adventure Camps. Candidate must possess the ability to work well individually and as a team, and must be comfortable working with and around all age groups, especially children. Excellent communication, organization and time management skills are a must. Candidate must have a clean background and submit to a full background check, in addition to holding a valid Alaska driver’s license. Work hours will vary with some evenings and weekends required based on program schedules.

Janitorial / Maintenance:

The Alaska Zoo is looking to fill a position in our maintenance department. Applicants should have some experience in one or all of the following: General labor, pressure washing, painting, janitorial, vehicle maintenance, knowledge of hand and power tools. Duties include cleaning and upkeep of public areas/restrooms/paths/buildings, performing trash and snow removal, participating in construction/landscaping projects involving digging/hauling/painting, conducting light repairs to machinery/pumps/filter systems/other systems, actively contributing to positive zoo visitor experiences. Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds repetitively. Must be able to work in Alaska’s extreme weather conditions. Must have a valid Alaska Driver’s License with a clean driving record. We are hiring for part time, seasonal customer service staff. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a family friendly environment and working with customers. Some duties include selling daily admissions tickets, memberships and concessions. Admissions acts as an information booth, so applicants must be willing to learn about the zoo and it animals and enjoy engaging with the public.

Applicants must be kind and attentive to customers, be able to work independently and productively, and work well as a team. Excellent cash handling and math skills are a must. This position requires the ability to handle high volume rushes as well as keeping busy cleaning, restocking or completing projects during slower periods, and some lifting of up to 50 lbs. Customer service experience preferred. The zoo is open 7 days a week year round, and is open 9am to 9pm in June, July and August. We primarily need applicants who can work closing shifts until 9:30pm, but there are other shifts available. Applicants must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
