The Alaska Zoo operates through winter with core, permanent part-time or full-time positions. We hire through spring and summer for our busy season.
FOR IMMEDIATE HIRE - OUTREACH COORDINATOR: The Alaska Zoo Education Department is presently seeking a qualified individual for the Outreach Coordinator position. This permanent, full-time position involves developing and leading school district outreach and field trip programs, outreach program coordination, booking and invoicing, and assisting with various education events and presentations. Public presentation experience and a Bachelor’s degree in animal science, biology or related field is strongly desired. Exotic animal experience is essential and candidate must be willing to handle a variety of education ambassador animals, including but not limited to reptiles, birds and mammals. Candidate must possess the ability to work well individually and as a team, and must be comfortable instructing and presenting to all age groups, especially children. Excellent communication, organization and time management skills are a must. The ability to develop science-based program activities with a creative flare is also essential. Candidate must have a clean background and submit to a full background check, in addition to holding a valid Alaska driver’s license. Work hours will vary with some evenings, overnights and weekends required based on program schedules. Must be physically capable of lifting 50 pounds unassisted and working in a variety of outdoor weather conditions. This is a full-time, year-round, permanent position with benefits. FOR IMMEDIATE HIRE - JANITORIAL POSITION (MORNINGS): The Alaska Zoo is looking for applicants to fill a permanent, part time position. This position is from 6am to 9am Sunday through Thursday. Duties include cleaning restrooms, stocking supply closets and trash removal. Applicants must be able to lift 35 pounds repetitively and be able to lift or move 50 pounds, must be able to work in Alaska’s extreme weather conditions and must have a valid Alaska Drivers License. CUSTOMER SERVICE OPENINGS:
Customer service openings: We have positions that open in customer service areas throughout the year. These areas include Admissions, Coffee Shop and Gift Shop. Most positions are part-time or full-time seasonal, with some opportunity for permanent employment given strong job performance and the zoo's needs.
