We offer shopping for unique gifts in our GIFT SHOP, food and espresso in our COFFEE SHOP and a walk through our past on vintage displays in our DISCOVERY CENTER. Your purchases in our Gift Shop and Coffee Shop go to support zoo operations.
We offer unique items for all ages in our Gift Shop. Our inventory covers a wide range of interests from art to handmade Alaskan crafts to stuffed animals. We have books and a wide selection of items for kids, along with apparel and pottery. Every item purchased in our Gift Shop goes back to fund zoo operations and cover the expenses of animal care.
We will be opening an online store soon for full-service shoppping. We currently offer a few Binky collection items for purchase online as well as hospital bears for sick kids.
Our Gift Shop is open during zoo hours, but you don't have to pay admission or go inside the zoo to shop. We have a separate entrance for shoppers who want to buy a gift and go on their way. We appreciate your business!
The Alaska Zoo operates its own full-service Coffee Shop located in the heart of zoo grounds. Our Coffee Shop is adjacent to the lawn area and greenhouse which are often used during summer months for events, company picnics, live music and education programs. Our Coffee Shop greenhouse is used during winter months for programs and hands-on event activity stations.
We offer a full range of snacks, lunch items, baked goods, refrigerated items and soda. Our baristas brew a variety of espresso drinks to suit your needs. The zoo does not offer lids or straws as they become a hazard to the animals when they end up in their habitats. We appreciate your understanding.
We hope you will stop by our Coffee Shop on your next zoo visit. We have a bulletin board in the dining area with the latest zoo program and event postings. And remember, your lunch buys our lunch! All proceeds from Coffee and Gift Shop sales support operations for our 501(c)3 non-profit zoo. Let our friendly staff serve you a warm cup of joe!
Zoo visitors will discover the unique beginning of the Alaska Zoo and our progress through the years by visiting the Discovery Center, located in the old gift shop building.
The Discovery Center is open during all zoo visiting hours and provides a good warming spot during winter visits and events.
Explore the history and story of the Alaska Zoo through vintage photographs, interpretive displays, hands-on items, and a DVD showing archival zoo footage. You will leave the Discovery Center with an understanding of who we are, where we came from and how we have served the community and wildlife of Alaska for almost 50 years.
