Earth Hour is Saturday, March 30th, 2019 from 8:30pm to 9:30pm, but we CHALLENGE schools (and businesses!) to participate for a chosen hour during their school day to allow teachers and classes to participate as a whole on Friday, March 29th, 2019.

How can your classroom or business participate?

  • Turn off all non-essential lights and electronics for an hour of your choice on Friday, March 29th, 2019.

  • Communicate your plans to us in advance and we will send you an email with activity ideas for your time with the lights out. These activities are designed by the Alaska Zoo Education Department and our partners in conservation!

  • Send us an email with the following:

    • Your school or business name

    • Grade level of your classroom

    • How many adults and children are participating

  • That’s it! It really is that simple!

Last year we had an AMAZING response to meet this challenge head-on.  We had 42 schools, 498 teachers and staff, and 4,049 students accept our challenge! Will YOU and your students or business accept this challenge?

For questions, and to let it be known that you are taking the challenge, contact the Alaska Zoo’s Education Director, Stephanie Hartman, at (907) 341-6463 or slhartman@alaskazoo.org.

Are you up for the challenge?
