Orphaned Bear Cubs Arrive from Seward Area

The Alaska Zoo received two brown bear cubs from the Seward, Alaska area on Monday night, August 13th, 2018. The cubs were orphaned after their mother was killed in defense of property. Both cubs are doing well and under close veterinary care. They will be going to live at Fortress of the Bears in Sitka, Alaska for permanent residence after they are cleared for transport by our veterinary and animal staff.

Due to their short stay at our facility, the cubs will be cared for behind-the-scenes in a calm setting in preparation for leaving. We take pride in providing the best care possible for animals such as these cubs who are brought to us by wildlife officials in need of care and a new home.
