If you watch our polar bears on the live bear camera online or stop by to visit them at their zoo habitat, you may only recall seeing one bear recently. The bear you are seeing in the main habitat is our male, Lyutyik. Our female Ahpun is living separately in an off-exhibit area in our new polar bear facility. She has access to her own outdoor yard and den area. Why must she be separated? Female polar bears need distance and separation from males during fall (post-breeding) months for the best chance of implantation is a fertilized egg is present. If she has successful implantation, she will den in her own maternity area and she could have cubs in her future! Fingers crossed!
