Scout Programs for YOUR Troop's Next Adventure

The Alaska Zoo is excited to invite scouts of all ages for exciting zoo adventures! Educational, fun and unforgettable experiences await Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and American Heritage Girls. Programs are packed with badge and patch material as well as behind-scenes tours and animal encounters, so join us to see the zoo as never before!

An overnight adventure from 5:30pm Friday to 10am Saturday that is overflowing with behind-scenes animal encounters and keeper interactions. Your group will spend the night in our Gateway Building with full facilities and snacks/breakfast are included in the program fees. This is our premier scout experience and a very popular program, so be sure to reserve your dates well in advance.

  • $50 per scout (ages 3-17) and $15 per adult (18 and older)

Zoo Scouts

Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the zoo while working on rank or badge and patch materials. Just tell us what achievement you are working towards and we will create a unique program to lead you through fun and EdZoocational activities that will help you work towards that requirement. This program lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.

  • $10 per Scout, $10 per adult chaperone

Scoutreach

Can’t make it to the zoo? We’ll bring the zoo to you! We can bring an Ambassador Animal or our Hands-on Critter Collection to your next Scout meeting. Animals you can choose from are a porcupine, great-horned owl, red-tailed hawk, merlin, Northern goshawk, turtles, or ball python (availability is subject to change). Our Critter Collection includes furs, feathers, skulls and more! You will get to have a close-up encounter while learning all about Alaskan animals and their unique adaptations.

  • $100 for an animal presentation in Anchorage, Eagle River or Chugiak
  • $125 for an animal presentation in Girdwood or the Mat-Su area
  • $60 for a Critter Collection presentation in Anchorage, Eagle River or Chugiak
  • $90 for a Critter Collection presentation in Girdwood or the Mat-Su area

Create-a-Camp

Bring your pack or troop to the zoo for the ultimate behind-the-scenes experience. Whether you choose a full-day or a half-day program your group will get to see animals up-close through special encounters and will enjoy tons of fun activities as zoo staff helps you work towards a requirement of your choice. These camps are tailored to your Scout group so you will get a unique and un-fur-getable experience. All Create-a-Camps include at least one snack time and full-day camps also include lunch.

  • $40 per Scout (half-day), $60 per Scout (full-day) and $10 per adult chaperone

Scout Safari

Take your troop or pack on a self-guided tour of the zoo. We will provide you with information about the animals at the zoo, including their histories. We also give you worksheets that will help you to lead your Scouts through an achievement of your choice.

  • $7 per Scout, $10 per adult chaperone
