We are currently hiring for the following positions:

Maintenance Technician:

The Alaska Zoo is looking for applicants with some experience in one or all of the following –plumbing, electrical, carpentry, vehicle maintenance, general labor, painting, janitorial, and knowledge of hand and power tools. Applicants must be able to lift 50lbs repetitively. Applicants must have a valid ADL. A CDL license is a plus. No DUI’s. Applications are available at The Alaska Zoo admissions office. Coffee Shop Staff:

We are looking for someone who enjoys a family environment, both with the zoo staff and patrons for a Part Time seasonal staff position. The position will be primarily in the Coffee Shop (a small cafe/snack shop), but will possibly also cross train in Admissions and/or the Gift Shop for coverage if needed. This person must be cheerful and attentive to customers, self motivated, thorough, a stickler for cleanliness, be able to work independently and productively, and have good cash handling/ math skills. This position requires the ability to handle high volume rushes as well as keeping busy during slow times by cleaning, restocking, or working on other department projects. Requires occasional lifting of up to roughly 50 lbs. Prior customer service or food service experience preferred. Must have current food service CHARR card for municipality compliance. The zoo is open 7 days a week. Shifts of normally 3-8 hours will be scheduled to cover the hours of 9:30am- 5:30pm daily, and potentially continuing into summer, June through August 8:30am-9:30pm for our summer programs. Summer Husbandry Internships:

40 hours per week, starting and ending dates flexible, $75 per week.  Housing is not provided at this time.  We can help you find inexpensive housing but we do not have funding available for housing.  If selected, you will work with different zoo keeping shifts throughout the summer.  You will gain experience providing basic care, training and enriching cold climate wildlife.  Internships can be shaped to individuals interests (i.e. medical).  To apply for an internship email Shannon Jensen, sjensen@alaskazoo.org, your complete resume, including cover letter and letters of recommendation by March 15th.  Final selection will be April 15th.  APPLICANTS MUST BE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE.  COLLEGE CREDIT MAY BE AVAILABLE THROUGH YOUR UNIVERSITY.

Seasonal Summer Camp Coordinator:

The Alaska Zoo Education Department is presently seeking a qualified individual for a Seasonal Camp Coordinator position. This seasonal, full-time position involves developing and leading Summer Adventure Camps, as well as assisting with various education events and presentations. Candidate must possess the ability to work well individually and as a team, and must be comfortable instructing and presenting to all age groups, especially children. Excellent communication, organization and time management skills are a must. The ability to develop science-based program activities with a creative flare is also essential. Candidate must have a clean background and submit to a full background check, in addition to holding a valid Alaska driver’s license. Work hours will vary with some evenings and weekends required based on program schedules. This position will be hired to work starting April 1st through the end of August and the pay is $12/hour. This seasonal, full-time position involves aiding the Camp Coordinators in the smooth running of Summer Adventure camps. Candidate must possess the ability to work well individually and as a team, and must be comfortable working with and around all age groups, especially children. Excellent communication, organization and time management skills are a must. Candidate must have a clean background and submit to a full background check, in addition to holding a valid Alaska driver’s license. Work hours will vary with some evenings and weekends required based on program schedules. This position will be hired to work starting May 1st through the end of August and the pay is $10/hour.
